Fear, Misinformation Shouldn't Drive Policies on U.S. Business

Policy Makers Should Support American Businesses Not Attack Them

Having spent years on Capitol Hill and in the trenches of business and policy, this writer seen firsthand how innovation and enterprise drive real change for families and communities in America.

Now, however, we are at a crossroads now, with policymakers using the perception of anti-business sentiment to push legislation that will raise costs, reduce access, and slow innovation.

If you want to know what truly makes life more affordable, connected, and secure for everyday Americans, look no further than the companies that operate on a large scale.

These are the businesses that deliver lower prices, more choices, and essential services to people who need them most.

Whether you’re in a big city or a rural town, American companies are helping to level the playing field, ensuring that essential goods and services are available to more people than ever before.

And it’s not just good for business, it’s good for America.

If there’s one thing that sets American enterprise apart, it’s the relentless drive to innovate.

It's not just their size that matters, but what that size enables: the ability to invest in bold ideas, take risks, and push the boundaries of what's possible.

With top-tier talent and deep resources, they turn setbacks into stepping-stones, ensuring that breakthrough technologies and life-saving advancements reach every corner of society, not just the privileged few.

From medical breakthroughs to the latest in digital connectivity, America’s leading corporations are at the forefront of making the impossible possible.

In the interests of full disclosure, that’s why I’m so excited to sit as the executive director of the American Growth and Innovation Forum (AGIF), a new organization centered around championing the real story of American business and advocating for sensible regulations on the state and federal level that does not impede progress and American businesses ability to deliver for consumers.

These companies are also the backbone of our communities.

They create millions of jobs, invest in local economies, and provide stability for workers and families. They’re the reason neighborhoods thrive, and upward mobility is possible. When these companies succeed, so do the people and places they serve.

And when crisis hits — whether it’s a natural disaster or a global pandemic — it’s these integrated businesses that keep the lights on, the shelves stocked, and the country moving forward.

Recent polling, commissioned by AGIF, found that despite only 40% of Americans having a favorable view of big business, 87% of them use products from big business and a majority think they are a force for good.

Despite all the benefits, there is a growing wave of skepticism about the role of large companies, with some claiming size is a threat and integration stifles competition.

However, the evidence tells a different story.

America’s leading corporations are the reason we have affordable products, reliable services, and world-class technology.

They’re the reason we remain the global leader in innovation.

At AGIF, we’re committed to making sure these facts are front and center.

It’s time to stop letting fear and misinformation drive the conversation about American business. We believe in celebrating the real impact of enterprise: the millions of jobs created, the strong communities built, and the undeniable progress that’s transforming lives across the country.

Because when American business thrives, America thrives.
